Passing through

It pays to be cautious, and not go live until everything works

An interesting notice appeared on Nedbank’s website this week if one was using a recent version of Firefox and tried to access internet banking. It’s gone now, but was on the site for at least 3 days. I know many people who regularly use internet banking, but are not that familiar with computers, and who were just plain confused by the message in the screenshot below. In case you can’t read the screenshot, here is what it says:

Incompatible browser detected

Please note, this version of internet banking is currently not compatible with the Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 browsers.

This is being addressed and a solution will be implemented shortly.

In order to access internet banking, please follow one of the following options:

Option 1

  • Type in the address bar “about:config”

  • Go to browser.cache.memory.enable and double click to make it false

  • Do the same to browser.cache.offline.enable

  • Once they are both set to false, close and reopen the browser.
  • Option 2
Clear the cache: Tools>Options>Advanced>Network>Offline Storage and click “Clear Now” (This process will need to be followed each time you visit the internet banking site

Alternatively another browser (Internet Explorer) can be used in the interim of you may access the old version of the website on: http://nedbankold.nedsecure.co.za
